NANNP Updates

Barbara Snapp DNP APRN NNP-BC
NANNP Council Chair

The Council’s current goal is transparency and member participation. We have reached out to you, our members, over the past 9 months on a variety of topics through Fireside Chats, surveys, and postings on MyNANN.

The following is a summation of our action plan based on input from members:

  • NANN website refresh. We are working with a to refresh NANN’s website. Although there are some financial considerations for a full redesign in the future, short-term efforts promise to increase user-friendliness and search functionality. Work will begin soon on a specific section for all advanced practice information to be accessible from the homepage via a simple click. The section will include a summary of the most recent meetings, position statements, volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, and other ideas we are exploring.

  • APRN education focus. A group is being created to specifically address APRN educational needs. Members of this group would work with NANN’s conference committee liaison (Dr. Leann Baker) for the APRN Summit as well as improving educational programs available throughout the year. Information on this new effort will be posted as it becomes available. Stay tuned to NANNP communications so you can volunteer to make our APRN education the best in class; we need your requests and ideas.

  • Moving forward inclusively. Through our Fireside Chats and surveys, you have made it abundantly clear that you understand healthcare is continuing to evolve and that we must evolve to remain current and relevant. Leadership has been exploring ways to achieve this goal. We now require the Council to include at least one clinical nurse specialist, one faculty member, and one nurse practitioner to ensure fair and balanced advanced practice representation. To align with NANN’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategic pillar and in recognition of our advanced practice colleagues who are not nurse practitioners, there is now a proposal to change the NANNP name. We will be sharing names for consideration through email and MyNANN, so stay tuned!

To accomplish our goals, we need you to be an active partner. We are looking forward to a new, more interactive website and an improved relationship with you. As advanced practice nurses and members, your partnership is crucial to help us keep moving forward as the voice of advanced practice nursing.
