Board Update

Lori BrittinghamLori Brittingham, MSN RN CNS AACNS-N
President of NANN

During the last week of February, the NANN Board of Directors and NANNP Council joined our NANN staff in Chicago for our midyear meetings. Our time together was spent participating in board development training, engaging in generative discussion about NANN’s and NANNP’s future, setting strategy to support your practice and improve outcomes for our patients and their families, and celebrating our successes, including a fifth consecutive month of membership growth. I think I speak for the entire board and council when I say we’re very excited for the future!

As I sat in the midyear meetings, surrounded by the amazing nurses who lead our organization, I couldn’t help but think back on my own journey to NANN leadership. A dear friend, mentor, and NANN past president, Peggy Gordin, first introduced me to NANN. She encouraged me to attend conference, get more involved with NANN, and, eventually, run for office. I am forever grateful to Peggy and for my involvement with NANN.

As you deepen your own ties to the neonatal nursing community, I hope you consider taking a similar course to mine. Network with your peers on MyNANN, come to conference in Anaheim later this year, lend your expertise to committees and task forces, and consider running for office. Your leadership is paramount to the continued success and growth of our association. NANN and NANNP rely on the time, talent, and expertise of dedicated individuals who are passionate about improving neonatal nursing practice and patient outcomes.

The call for nominations for the NANN Board of Directors and the NANNP Council opened Friday, March 15, 2018. NANN will be accepting applications from qualified candidates for the following positions through Friday, April 13, 2018:

  • Secretary/Treasurer
  • Director-at-Large (2)
  • Staff Nurse Director-at-Large
  • NANNP Council (4)

Please consider contributing to NANN’s and NANNP’s collective voice by applying for these unique opportunities.

Lastly, as you may know, NANN has set a goal for growth, aiming to add 777 neonatal nurses and APRNs to our membership in 2018. We’re 25% of the way there and I hope that each of you are working to help us meet our goal. Your word-of-mouth recommendation is the most effective way to grow NANN. For every five new members you refer who join, you will receive a $100 Amazon gift card. Also be sure to share our group membership offers with them—it’s a great way for new members to join the most vibrant community of neonatal nurses at a discounted rate.

I am truly grateful for all you do on behalf of NANN.
