President's Message
Lori Brittingham, MSN RN CNS AACNS-N
This week, we will be convening in Providence, RI for NANN’s 33rd Annual Conference. For those of you attending, be sure to take advantage of all the meeting has to offer. Learn all you can by attending cutting-edge presentations, networking with your colleagues, and visiting with industry-leading exhibitors. Celebrate each other, relax, and enjoy. Take the knowledge you gain back to your units and use it to help move your practice forward. And, be sure to attend NANN’s Business Meeting on Saturday morning to learn about what NANN is doing to support you and improve outcomes for your patients and families. For those of you not attending the conference, we’ll miss you! But please be on the lookout in the coming months for videotaped sessions on hot topics and late-breaking sessions that will be offered on NANN’s website as enduring education.
As we look ahead, take a moment to note some upcoming important and exciting opportunities and deadlines:
- The deadline for proposals for NANN’s 13th Annual Research Summit is November 1. The Summit will be held in Scottsdale, AZ, April 10–12, 2018. Selected participants will receive complimentary round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and meals. Participation in the Summit is a great way to showcase your evidence-based practice and research projects and to discuss your work with other participants and leaders.
- We’re pleased to announce that NANN’s 34th Annual Conference will be held in Anaheim, CA, October 17–20, 2018! The 2018 Call for Abstracts will conclude on December 18.
- After a very successful delegation to Cuba this past year, NANN is very excited to be able to offer an additional opportunity for professional travel. Please consider joining our delegation to Vietnam March 3–10, 2018, as we meet with our Vietnamese peers to learn about the advances and challenges of neonatal healthcare delivery and share clinical expertise and experiences! Deadline for enrollment is December 3.
- The Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) is an intense learning experience for nurses interested in becoming more involved in the legislative and regulatory aspects of health care. This interactive 3-day program will commence in March 2018. Each year, NANN grants scholarships to two NANN members. Scholarship applications will be posted on our website within the coming weeks. Deadline for application submission is January 2, 2018.
I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the devastation incurred by recent storms in Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean. For those of you affected, thank you for your tireless efforts in caring for our tiny patients and their families, many times at the expense of caring for yourselves and your own families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. For those of you who donated your time and to the many charitable organizations involved in the relief efforts, thank you for your generous support. An overwhelming number of you reached out to help, and this speaks to the strong community that we are. As neonatal nurses, we have a lot to be proud of!
Looking forward to seeing many of you in Providence!
Fondly,
Lori
