NANN Needs You: Answer the Annual Call for Volunteers Today!

NANN depends on and thrives because of the many member volunteers who generously give their time and expertise to carry out the work of the organization. Serving on a committee can also help you hone or develop new skills to enhance your career.

NANN member volunteers must be currently practicing in neonatal nursing in a role such as clinical care, education, research, administration, or consulting. At its discretion, NANN’s Board of Directors may make exceptions to this requirement.

Members interested in any of the following opportunities should submit an application, including a statement of interest addressing why you would like to be considered, your CV, and a conflict of interest form. Volunteer now!

NEW — Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee

The Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) Committee oversees the development of CPGs to support the provision of quality, evidence-based patient care.

Open Positions: 4
Role and Responsibilities

  • Serve as CPG Committee liaison with various working groups throughout the term. Work groups should have a balance of researchers and clinicians as well as other stakeholders as needed to ensure the clinical translation of the evidence into practice.
  • Keep apprised of major healthcare and neonatal nursing trends to ensure the guideline reflects the state of the- cience.
  • Attend and participate in all CPG Committee meetings, including CPG work group meetings.
  • Assist in the annual review of existing CPGs.
  • Assist in the development of annual reports and recommendations to the NANN Board of Directors.
  • Maintain open communication.
  • Guide and mentor assigned CPG work groups to maintain integrity and continuity during the NANN CPG development and revision process.

Qualifications

  • Current NANN member in good standing
  • Doctorate in nursing or equivalent degree
  • Experience in scientific writing, editing, and guideline development
  • Expertise in current standards of guideline development and publication process
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an interdisciplinary team across geographic distances
  • Volunteer history with NANN
  • Adept at using various communication and documentation technologies
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills

Term

  • Members will be appointed to serve a 2-year term, with the option to serve one additional term.

Time Commitment

  • Anticipated time commitment is 1–3 hours per month.

Education Provider Committee

The Education Provider Committee (EPC) provides guidance and direction for the NANN continuing nursing education (CNE) program.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Engage in ongoing identification and reporting of practice gaps and learning needs.
  • Identify and provide guidance to activity planning committees and the  board on emerging issues within health care and the profession.
  • Work with each planning committee to facilitate activity educational assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Be a resource to each planning committee.
  • As needed, review material for accuracy and alignment with the activity or session objectives.
  • Evaluate the overall educational program annually.
  • Respond proactively to ensure compliance with accreditation criteria.
  • Develop, disseminate, or conduct surveys and/or focus groups on member needs, interests, and preferred learning styles, and then interpret the results.
  • Annually, using the resources of the EPC, recommend an "educational agenda" for the coming year.

Qualifications

  • Current NANN member in good standing
  • Must currently be practicing in neonatal nursing in a role such as clinical care, education, research, administration, or consulting
  • Able to attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled committee calls

Term

  • Members will be appointed to serve a 2-year term, with the option to serve one additional term.

  • 1 hour per month for committee task and bimonthly teleconference

Health Policy and Advocacy Committee

The Health Policy and Advocacy Committee identifies legislative and regulatory issues that impact the NANN membership, influences neonatal nursing practice regulation and policy, and increases opportunities to work in coalition with other healthcare-related groups that impact neonatal practice.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate in six virtual meetings.
  • Complete assigned tasks such as monitoring legislative issues or regulation, working with chapters, contributing content for "From the Hill to the NICU," or other assignments as requested.
  • Assist in planning advocacy-related activities at the annual conference.
  • Provide feedback on nursing legislation, both locally and nationally.

Qualifications

  • Current NANN member in good standing
  • Must currently be practicing in neonatal nursing in a role such as clinical care, education, research, administration, or consulting
  • Must have the ability to respond promptly to time-sensitive requests for review or feedback

Term

  • Members will be appointed to serve a 2-year term, with the option to serve one additional term.

Time Commitment

  • Anticipated time commitment is approximately 2 hours per month.

NEW — Membership Committee

The Membership Committee helps cultivate and maintain a vibrant and growing membership that includes a strong balance of early, mid-, and later-career neonatal nurses, and supports the recruitment, retention, and satisfaction of members.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource to staff on issues related to membership marketing, recruitment, and retention.
  • Assist in development of membership-related messaging by nursing role.
  • Participate in outreach to potential members and member groups if deemed necessary for planned membership retention and recruitment programs.
  • Evaluate data to identify gaps and recommend new programs, changes to existing programs, or discontinuation of programs to achieve NANN's goal of membership retention and growth.
  • Assist with conference responsibilities, such as staffing the NANN booth, moderator positions, and other roles for which membership expertise is needed.
  • Consult with staff on membership categories and dues structure; propose necessary amendments to bylaws to reflect membership structure recommendations.
  • Monitor membership communities on MyNANN and elevate issues to NANN staff and, when necessary, the designated board liaison.

NANN Nominations Committee

Influence the future direction of NANN by participating on the committee that develops the slate of candidates for NANN's annual board of directors elections.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Encourage NANN members to participate in the nominations and election process.
  • Support the application process by identifying strong candidates for the board.
  • Participate in the strategic review of potential candidates and slate selection process.
  • Actively participate in scheduled committee calls (3–4 per year).
  • Call prospective candidates to obtain consent to participate in the election.
  • Participate in exit interviews of outgoing board members as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current NANN member in good standing
  • Must currently be practicing in neonatal nursing in a role such as clinical care, education, research, administration, or consulting
  • Must participate in all scheduled committee calls and all required application reviewing functions
  • NANN volunteer experience preferred

Term

  • Members are appointed to serve a maximum 2-year term.

Time Commitment

  • Majority of volunteer work will take place between February and May, with an anticipated time commitment of 3–5 hours per month.

NANNP Nominations Committee

Calling NANNP members! Help ensure the ongoing vibrancy of NANNP by joining the committee that develops the slate of candidates for the NANNP Council annual election.
Open Positions

  • One (1) NANNP member-at-large
  • One (1) past NANNP Council member

Role and Responsibilities

  • Attend conference calls related to the review and selection of candidates.
  • Network with NANNP members to encourage participation in the nominations and elections process.
  • Participate in the review of potential candidates and selection of nominees.

NNP Awards Committee

Celebrate outstanding neonatal nurse practitioners by supporting the selection process for two NNP specific awards: the NNP Excellence Award and the NNP Rising Star Award.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Review submitted nominations for both awards.
  • Participate in virtual meetings, scheduled as needed, to select award recipient.
  • Serve as an NNP awards ambassador by promoting NNP Awards to NANN and NANNP members, chapters, and colleagues.

  • Must participate in all scheduled committee calls and all required application reviewing functions

Term

  • Members are appointed to serve a maximum 2-year term.

Time Commitment

  • Majority of volunteer work will take place in May, with an anticipated time commitment of 3–5 hours.

New — Professional Development Committee

The Professional Development Committee aims to provide neonatal nurses opportunities for mentoring and professional development in a variety of clinical and professional practice areas, as well as career development and the potential for leadership within NANN. Offering guidance as members launch and navigate their careers helps develop a lasting foundation for excellent patient care and nurse leadership and is vital to the continued advancement of the field.

The committee also will provide oversight and guidance for fostering professional development and leadership-training opportunities.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Establish eligibility and selection criteria for all professional development and leadership training opportunities.
  • Select participants for leadership training and professional development opportunities.
  • Evaluate data to identify gaps and recommend new programs and changes to existing programs, including, but not limited to, the E-mentoring program.
  • Promote the value of professional development and nurse and association leadership to NANN members.
  • Identity opportunities for program recipients to volunteer within NANN.

Program Planning Committee

The Program Planning Committee (PPC) represents NANN's values and members' needs by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the educational component of the annual educational conference. All members of the PPC will receive a complimentary annual educational conference registration.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Review concurrent session abstract submissions.
  • Select and organize interprofessional speakers and topics.
  • Review conference feedback and available gap analysis data to determine topics for future programs.
  • Select a range of topics relevant to the needs of most neonatal nurses including those in expanded roles.
  • Make initial contact with speakers.
  • Work with staff to obtain speaker contact information.
  • Assist with the general activities of the conference as needed.

Qualifications

  • Current NANN member in good standing
  • Must currently be practicing in neonatal nursing in a role such as clinical care, education, research, administration, or consulting

Term

  • Members are appointed to serve a 2-year term, with an option to serve one additional term.

Time Commitment

  • 1 hour for one onsite meeting at the NANN Annual Conference
  • 4 hours for four teleconferences during the summer
  • 6 hours for one planning video conference in early winter
  • 5 hours for concurrent abstract review process in late fall

Research Committee

The Research Committee supports neonatal nursing research and the overall strategic direction established by the Research Institute, thereby promoting the dissemination and utilization of neonatal research findings for the improvement of neonatal care. Furthermore, it promotes research through education and awareness of the research process, along with the establishment of a research teaching and mentoring program.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate special projects to meet Research Committee goals and functions as the operational arm of the Institute.
  • Work with the Steering Council to establish the criteria for abstract or application qualifications for the Research Summit, Annual Educational Conference paper and poster submissions, and other research-based educational activities developed under the aegis of the Institute.
  • Serve as the review body for the Research Summit, Annual Educational Conference paper and poster submissions, and other research-based educational activities developed under the aegis of the Institute.
  • Oversee and judge the NANN Annual Research Abstract Award.
  • Review research surveys for dissemination to NANN members.

Qualifications

  • Current NANN member in good standing
  • Must currently be practicing in neonatal nursing in a role such as clinical care, education, research, administration, or consulting
  • DNP or PhD preferred

Term

  • Members are appointed to serve a 2-year term, with an option to serve one additional term.

Time Commitment

  • A majority of the work will be completed in the late fall/early winter, with a total time commitment of 8 hours.

Small Grants Committee

The Small Grants Program accepts applications from all NANN members with an interest in furthering their research interests and initiating their own research-based or evidence-based practice (EBP) project. The program provides an opportunity for connecting those with little or no research background with experienced researchers to enhance their skills and promote the success of the research study or EBP project. The Small Grants Committee is charged with overseeing the application process, reviewing submissions, and supporting the work of the recipients.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Annually review the small grants infrastructure (process, forms, administration, and outcomes) for improvements or changes.
  • Conduct reviews of grant submissions in accordance with existing small grants program practices and procedures.
  • Select grant recipients based on available awards and within established criteria.
  • Communicate review feedback to both grant recipients and non-recipients.
  • Provide administrative oversight of each grant so as to help recipients and mentors meet budget, timeline, and reporting requirements.
  • Provide regular status reports to the Steering Council on the progress of grant recipients.
  • Recommend grants with suitable and practice-oriented outcomes to the Steering Council for consideration and presentation at the Research Summit, Annual Educational Conference, and other NANN educational venues.

Qualifications

  • Current NANN member in good standing
  • Must currently be practicing in neonatal nursing in a role such as clinical care, education, research, administration, or consulting
  • Research experience, specifically in writing, reviewing, and administering of grants
  • DNP or PhD preferred

Term

  • Members are appointed to serve a 2-year term, with an option to serve one additional term.

Time Commitment

  • Total commitment of 4 hours in late winter/early spring to review and select small grant applicants

Special Interest Group Facilitators

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) provide NANN members with opportunities to connect, network, and share best practices. These groups are led by volunteers who facilitate discussions among members of the group and work collaboratively with other SIG facilitators and the board liaison to accomplish mutual goals that support the strategic plan of the association.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Stimulate and facilitate discussions for your SIG via the MyNANN member community.
  • Write articles for NANN news vehicles (maximum two times per year).
  • Attend NANN's Annual Conferece to chair the SIG networking breakfast.
  • Participate in teleconferences when needed.
  • Submit a report to the board for their mid-year and annual meetings.
