Happy New Year—and in celebration of the Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday—Happy Year of the Nurse and the Midwife! We hope you’re off to a great start in 2020, setting exciting professional and personal intentions for the year ahead. For NANN, it’s a time for looking back on a year of achievements and learnings, and ahead to tackle the goals we’ve set for the organization this year. It is truly an honor and privilege to work side by side with so many of you and together, lead the work of NANN’s mission: To be the professional voice that shapes neonatal nursing through excellence in practice, education, research, and professional development.
Throughout the year, I’ll continue to update you on accomplishments related to our strategic plan. NANN’s plan is built on five strategic domains: Education and Professional Development, Setting the Standard of Care, Advocacy and Awareness, Leadership, and Community. Today, I’m excited to share the latest updates and planned efforts within the Leadership domain.
Last fall, NANN launched year 2 of our Emerging Leader Fellowship (ELF) program in partnership with Synova Associates at the NANN conference in Savannah. A cohort of 12 emerging neonatal nurse leaders are participating in an expert-delivered 8-month program, including leadership assessments and education on critical leadership topics. We are so proud of these new leaders who are already finding ways to get more involved with NANN and benefit our community. Look for many of our current and alumni ELFs to share their expertise in NANN’s upcoming free professional development video series, NICU Knowledge Share.
To further celebrate the diversity and talents that NANN members bring to our membership, we will work toward offering new microvolunteering opportunities in the coming year. These bite-sized volunteer commitments, such as contributing as an author, reviewer, or social media writer, provide ways for you to get involved in a timeframe that works for you. Look for communications throughout the year that highlight these offerings to find a way to get more involved with NANN this year.
In celebration of the Year of the Nurse, I encourage each of you to take on the personal challenge of sharing your NANN experience with other nurses in your neonatal circles. For NANN to make the biggest difference, we simply must grow our membership. Please join me in referring new nurses to NANN this year and expanding the reach and power of this talented, vibrant organization. NANN makes recruitment easy and rewarding with our Member Referral Program and our Member Recruitment Toolkit. Remember, groups of new NANN members are eligible for our Group Membership Discount as well. Please reach out to your peers and share all that NANN has to offer today.
Thank you for your loyalty, your involvement, and all you do for our neonatal nursing profession and community. All year long, NANN will be celebrating the Year of the Nurse and the differences we’re making thanks to the efforts of every single NANN member.
