NANN’s 2026 Delegation to Spain
February 1-6, 2026
Join us in Spain for a meaningful exchange with global leaders in neonatal care. Together, we’ll explore pressing topics in neonatal health and uncover ideas that can shape the future of care.

Delegation Leader: Taryn Edwards, NANN President
The composition of the delegation will determine the final professional program, including the individuals and facilities to be visited, and the topic of discussion. Each delegation member will be asked to provide a professional profile and identify their specific area of interest. This input will shape the final program to ensure a meaningful and productive exchange. Below are the preliminary topics of discussion drafted for this program and the preliminary schedule of activities.
Preliminary Topics of Discussion
- Practices contributing to the reduction in neonatal mortality
- Research on outcomes with parent/family in care of their infant, such as visitation, kangaroo care, rooming in, etc.
- Trauma-informed care methodology and the impact on the infants, families, and clinicians.
- Palliative care programs and clinical practices for complex neonatal cases
- Medication and treatment protocol for pain management
- Future plans for collaborative research
Please Note: Please hold on booking your flight until the extension is confirmed via email.
NANN’s 2025 Delegation to Sweden

In February 2025, NANN conducted a delegation to Stockholm, Sweden, for a high-level, in-depth international exchange. Sweden leads the world in reducing neonatal mortality, at 1.8 per thousand per live birth in 2021, and a 20% reduction in infant mortality over the last ten years.
The goal of this delegation, led by NANN President Taryn Edwards, was to observe and learn about the programs, methods, and unique approaches to increasing survival rates for neonates.
Topics for Discussion:
- United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (3.1, 3.2, 3.7, 3.C)
- 3.1 By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births.
- 3.2 By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births and under-5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1,000 live births.
- 3.7 By 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programs.
- 3.C Substantially increase health financing and the recruitment, development, training and retention of the health workforce in developing countries, especially in least developed countries and small island developing States.
- Care model practices in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Role of the parents in care of their infant (i.e. family centered care, visitation policy, human milk and breastfeeding rates, skin-to-skin care rates, etc.)
- Nursing education and preparation for practice in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Access to care for patients outside of urban areas
