Established in 2007 and governed by an elected body, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses-Advanced Practice (NANN-AP) is the unified voice of neonatal advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). NANN-AP is dedicated to addressing the unique workforce and professional practice issues of neonatal APRNs through its commitment to leadership, expertise, and community. NANN-AP develops publications for APRNs and shares membership and access to their publications with all interested neonatal healthcare practitioners. NANN-AP Mission

NANN-AP is the national, unified voice for neonatal APRNs to ensure safe, quality, and cost-effective evidenced-based care that impacts outcomes for neonates, infants, their families, and their communities.

The APRN is an integral part of the healthcare system recognized for clinical expertise in education, research, quality improvement, health policy, and interdisciplinary collaboration. 

Leadership

To influence the future of neonatal APRNs, NANN-AP members:

  • Set standards: NANN-AP members establish standards for neonatal APRN roles, education, and practice to ensure APRNs are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality care.
  • Represent the specialty nationally: NANN-AP members have a voice in important discussions and decisions affecting neonatal care through representation in key groups, such as the L.A.C.E. work group, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties.
  • Foster professional relationships: NANN-AP fosters collaboration and supports the professional growth of APRNs through relationships with organizations like the  American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Expertise

To share their knowledge with others, NANN-AP members contribute to many initiatives:

  • Educational materials: NANN-AP members apply their expertise to develop educational materials, many of which are available at a discounted rate to NANN-AP members.
  • APRN Summit at NANN’s Annual Conference: Hosted by NANN-AP, this summit covers key leadership and clinical topics and provides a platform for APRNs to discuss challenges, share insights, and learn from experts in the field.
  • Workforce issues: By identifying and tackling workforce and professional practice issues at the national levels NANN-AP supports the sustainability and growth of the neonatal APRN workforce.
  • Recruitment and retention: NANN-AP videos target NNP recruitment and retention to combat the NNP workforce shortfall by highlighting the rewarding aspects of neonatal nursing and encouraging new professionals to join the field.

NANN-AP members build community through recognition and connection.
